Silk Caye Marine Reserve

The entire 16-mile Placencia Peninsula is often referred to as just “Placencia”.  There are eight neighbourhoods scattered along the meandering Caribbean stretch of beach.  A very healthy mix of expats and locals are intertwined in the neighbourhoods to form a healthy community.

The Laughing bird National Park and the Silk Caye Marina Reserve offer memorable snorkeling with the opportunity to swim alongside sea turtles, spotted eagle rays, harmless nurse sharks and docile yet giant whale sharks.  With Placencia’s uncrowded waters, you will have these majestic creatures all to yourself as they swim past.  The feel of having the entire Caribbean Sea is your own private swimming pool, is just one of the many reasons people call this place home.  Hiking, birding, river running, zip lining  and even jungle mountain climbing is all less than an hour away by car.  The 121,000 acre Cockscomb National Park offers an amazing jungle setting as does the Bocawina National Park.  So much to do here.  Want to relax?  No better place exists!  Want to go all out and tackle the latest adventure?  It’s all right here!

Placencia is Belize’s second most popular tourist destination, following Ambergris Caye (San Pedro Town), yet offers a unique and authentic experience unmatched by any other location. Placencia’s charm lies in its spacious, serene environment, situated on a narrow 16-mile peninsula that contrasts with the vast expanses of Ambergris Caye. Buildings are limited to just a few stories, preventing high-rise condos and allowing for thoughtfully planned development. Most of the land consists of small, single-family lots, so there are few large parcels suitable for mega hotels, resorts or large condo projects. The peninsula is lush and green, with swaying palm trees, bougainvillea and hibiscus flowers, creating a natural paradise far removed from the busy, crowded streets of Ambergris Caye. Placencia remains an unspoiled haven and it’s here to stay.

Placencia's restaurant scene is earning international recognition, attracting visitors eager to experience its culinary offerings, tropical rum, locally sourced coffee and artisan chocolate, not to mention some of the best gelato in the world! You can enjoy these delights as you stroll through the village, taking in the beautiful sea views. For those who crave activity, Placencia offers a local bowling alley, a new "professional" mini golf course, pickleball and tennis courts and soon, a 9-hole golf course. Craft beer lovers can also visit Hobbs Brewery and Restaurant at The Barge. In Placencia, boredom is simply not an option!

As tourism continues to rise and more foreigners seek their own slice of paradise, the real estate market in Placencia has been thriving. Lucky buyers are snapping up vacation homes, VRBO-style investments, low-maintenance beachfront condos, lagoon-side properties with stunning views, and charming boutique beachfront hotels. Prices have steadily increased over the years, with strong demand and consistent appreciation since 2020. Thankfully, prices remain very reasonable, offering excellent value for the quality of property available.

Placencia is a genuine community, where people from around the world come together, connect, and embrace the joy of life. It’s not a place of pretense, but one of lifelong friendships, family, well being, happiness, exploration, peace of mind and personal rejuvenation. The Placencia Peninsula is not just a destination, it’s a place to truly live. We are fortunate to call it home. The Villas at Cocoplum is situated in the heart of the Peninsula, offering the most coveted address in Placencia and arguably, in all of Belize.
